CRITICAL SECURITY WARNING

Always send a small test amount first Before sending your entire balance, send a small amount of SOL (e.g., $10 worth) to verify everything works correctly.

Double-check the address. Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. If you send funds to the wrong address, they are lost forever. Phantom’s copy feature is your best friend.

Ensure you are on the correct network. Coinbase and Phantom both use the  Solana network  by default for SOL, so this is straightforward. Never change the network for SOL; it should always be Solana.

1: Prepare Your Phantom Wallet Address

  1. Open your Phantom wallet browser extension or mobile app.
  2. Unlock your wallet with your password.
  3. On the main screen, you will see your SOL balance. Click the “Receive”  button.
  4. You will see your unique Solana address (it will start with a character like `7`, `A`, `9`, etc.).
  5. Click the copy icon (two squares) right next to the address to copy it to your clipboard.

This is the safest method to avoid typos.  You can also display the QR code if you are using your phone.

2: Initiate the Withdrawal on Coinbase

  1. Log in to your Coinbase account on the website or mobile app.
  2. Click or tap on  “Assets”  to view your cryptocurrency balances.
  3. Find and select  Solana (SOL)  from your list of assets.
  4. Click the “Send”  button (on web) or the  “Send / Receive”  button and then “Send” (on mobile).

 3: Enter the Transfer Details

  1.  Recipient Address

In the recipient field,  paste the Phantom wallet address  you copied in Step 1.

TRIPLE-CHECK that the pasted address is 100% correct  The first and last few characters should match what you saw in Phantom.

  1.  Amount

Enter the amount of SOL you wish to send. You can type a dollar amount or an SOL amount.

Remember to account for the network fee  (usually very small on Solana, often less than $0.01). Coinbase will deduct this fee automatically and show you the total before confirming.

  1.  Network (MOST IMPORTANT STEP

Coinbase will ask you to select a network .  You MUST select the Solana network

It might be pre-selected. It will often be labeled as  “SOL”   or  “Solana

WARNING Selecting a different network (like Ethereum ERC-20) will result in the permanent loss of your funds.

  4: Review and Confirm

  1. Carefully review all the details: the recipient address, the amount, and the network.
  2. If everything is correct, click  “Continue”  or  “Send Now
  3. Coinbase may require you to complete 2-factor authentication (2FA) for security. Approve the request on your authenticator app or via email.

  5: Wait for Confirmation

After confirming, you will see a transaction status screen. The transfer can take a few minutes to process.

You can check the status by clicking on the transaction in your Coinbase history.

Once processed, open your Phantom wallet. Your new SOL balance should appear shortly. You can also see the transaction in Phantom’s transaction history.

Troubleshooting: My SOL hasn’t arrived yet.

Be patient. It can sometimes take a few minutes, especially if the network is busy.

Check the transaction ID (TXID)  In your Coinbase withdrawal history, find the transaction and click on it. There should be a link to a Solana blockchain explorer (like Solscan.io). If you see it confirmed there, the funds have been successfully sent to your address.

Refresh Phantom  Sometimes closing and reopening the Phantom extension can force it to sync with the latest blockchain data.

By following these steps carefully, you will successfully and safely transfer your SOL from Coinbase to your self-custody Phantom wallet. Welcome to the world of DeFi and NFTs on Solana’.
